Gene Winfield Signs BOMONSTER's Art

Gene Winfield passed away on 3/4/25. He was 97 years old. He created lots of custom cars in his lifetime. I first saw him restoring his own Pacifica Econoline custom truck in 2010 and followed the progress until he finished it in 2012. I created this original scratchboard art piece and gave him the original at his Mojave, CA home and workshop. He signed it and gave me permission to sell these limited edition litho prints.

I first saw this rusted out 1962 Econoline van truck along side his home at one of his open house events. The original Pacifica show van/truck had disappeared into the junk pile of car show history. The doors and bed cut suggested the real thing but the front end looked like work had started and then stopped. The next year there it was in his shop and work had begun! Gene had been gifted the project and was recreating his own show rod from 1962. I took these pictures of the progress and appreciated Gene's open garage door policy. He always gave permission to photograph work in progress. It was a real treat to see the master craftsman's metal work and then see it on the road finished and painted just a couple of years later.

For real custom car lovers, meeting the legendary Gene Winfield was a real honor. He worked hard creating, producing and marketing his merch selling at many shows in the west. He signed anything put in front of him without charge and was always ready for a photo.

When I finished the original art piece, I drove out to Gene's and presented it to him. He gave me private tour of his Mojave desert home, carrying my art gift with him most of the way. It was the ultimate Gene Winfield memory lane. It looked like he had saved every photo, autograph, model kit, toy, poster, trophy, magazine article, guitar, movie prop and Hot Wheel with his name on it. It was almost too much to take it all in. My art proudly displayed next to his.
